The course will cover key concepts in regulatory RNAs. The following themes will be covered: Different kinds of regulatory (non-coding) RNAs in eukaryotes, regulatory RNAs in development and disease, regulatory RNAs in virus and bacteria, evolution of regulatory RNAs, RNA transport and RNA methodologies (bioinformatics and emerging experimental strategies).

After completing the course, the students should be able to describe the different kinds of regulatory RNAs in development, disease and evolution, and their mechanism of action, describe and critically evaluate the application of emerging experimental strategies for the study of regulatory RNAs and transfer the knowledge acquired in the course into their specific projects and fields of research.

The learning activities include lectures, group discussions and presentations. Lectures will be held by experts in the respective fields (see below). The students will present themselves with short chalk talks on the first day. They will be divided into groups and during the course discuss and brainstorm in these groups to transfer and apply the new knowledge acquired during the course into their specific projects and fields of research. Each student will present and discuss their conclusions from these discussions to all the other students and course directors.

Examination will take place in form of a presentation, where the course participants will discuss the transfer of the knowledge acquired during the course into their specific projects and fields of research. Each course participant will be assessed individually. Furthermore, attendance to all parts of the course are mandatory and absence will require compensation in the form of a written essay.

Furthermore, the course will feature several lecturers from the specific fields covered (to be decided).
