After having successfully completed the course the students should have good theoretical knowledge of: biology and husbandry of laboratory animals; microbiology and disease of laboratory animals; health hazards and safe practices in the animal house; design and conduct of animal experiments; alternatives to animal use; ethical aspects and legislation; analysis of scientific literature.

Course 6B can be chosen by the doctoral student, who is using animal material for his/her research which has been retrieved by others. Course of lectures. It covers i.a. laws and regulations, laboratory animal biology, maintenance, experimental methods, alternative methods and ethics in laboratory animal experimentation. Please observe that this course does not give international authority to independent work with laboratory animals.

Lectures, seminars, group work and assignments. Compulsory items: 85% attendance at lectures and seminars. Contribute to group work and write assignments.

Written examination, satisfactorily completed group work and assignments
