Beskrivning
The course is an intermediate program focused on different study designs in the pharmacoepidemiology field. Various designs, along with teamwork and group discussions, will help students better understand how to design studies in this area.
Inlärningsmål
At the end of course, the participants should be able to:
- Design a pharmacoepidemiologic study
- Explain principles of designing a study based on learned study types.
- Select a suitable statistical method for each study type
Innehåll
The course will provide insight into different study designs in pharmacoepidemiology. It is an intermediate course that focuses on study designs and key analytical methods in pharmacoepidemiology. Students will learn how to design a cross-sectional study, case-control study, cohort study, self-controlled designs, including case-crossover studies, and quasi-experimental studies such as interrupted time series. We will review the theory behind each study method from a pharmacoepidemiology perspective, along with its strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, the students will have the opportunity to design different types of studies or evaluate their ongoing studies based on what they learned in the course. Analytical and statistical methods suitable for each study design will be discussed. Additionally, students will have the chance to analyze articles related to the study designs they are involved in.
Undervisning
- Lectures
- Group discussion
- Group projects
- Presentation
- Q&A
Since the course is an intermediate-level course, students have the opportunity to design a study based on their prior knowledge. They may use their ongoing project plan or the data that they are using for their study. We will teach them the main principles of selecting a suitable analysis method for their designed study
Examination
The students will be assessed in two ways:
1- Attending actively in group discussions and presenting the results of their discussion, as well as being active in the other compulsory sessions
2- Preparing one study each (with different study designs for different students) and defending their method
Litteratur
- Drug utilization research, methods and applications, 2nd edition
Literature: Literature related to each subject, which will be delivered in the class
