Beskrivning
The course is devoted to provide knowledge from the translational basis to the clinical applications of artificial ventilation.
Inlärningsmål
The attendee, at the end of the course:
• will know the physical and the physiological properties of lungs relevant to understand and implement mechanical ventilation;
• will be able to implement in silico and animal model of different lung diseases;
• will be able to use the mechanical ventilator in both the controlled and assisted modes of support, in order to conjugate physiology and clinics.
Innehåll
The main topics are:
• physics of respiratory mechanics
• physiological determinants of lung mechanical characteristics (laboratory and bedside methods for lung mechanical measurements)
• in silico and animal models of lung failure and how to implement them
• ethical aspects of animal and clinical research in artificial ventilation
• image analysis of lung function
• assisted and controlled modes of ventilation in the clinical scenario and how to practically implement them (patient ventilator interaction, PEEP setting, lung and diaphragm protective ventilation)
• the weaning process and the interactions between heart and lung
• extracorporeal support of lung function.
Undervisning
The applicant should already be admitted to a third-cycle (doctoral) education in the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy (or equivalent title for participants from other countries) by a Swedish or another Scandinavian university.
Priority criteria
Priority will be given according to the following order:
1. Doctoral students within the discipline of medicine and pharmacy, Uppsala University.
2. Date of planned upcoming dissertation.
3. Date of admission to doctoral studies.
4. Date of application to the present course.
You will be informed if you have been accepted to the course by the end of April.
A fee will be charged to your department if you accept your place in the course and subsequently do not attend.
