Beskrivning

Aim: To train future researchers in writing scientific paper, focusing on each and every step in the entire publication process and including a discussion of publication profile.

Requirements: Anyone who has started PhD studies (priority) or working as a research assistant with little or no prior experience of the challenges associated with scholarly writing for publication, and those interested in improving the impact of their research publications.

Inlärningsmål

By the end of the course, participants will:
• Be able to identify the publications best suited for their work
• Better understand how to write about their research with clarity
• Understand the purpose of each section in a research paper
• Understand how online platforms have changed the way research papers are disseminated
• Better understand how to write about methodology as well as about research findings
• Be able to make strategic choices about how, where and when to publish their research

Innehåll

• Exercises to help student to identify the most publishable elements of their research
• Abstract writing
• Advice on how to identify and profile the best publications/ journals for their work
• A section-by-section guide to what is expected in each part of a typical research article
• A guide to using EQUATOR guidance (for example, CONSORT and STROBE) in study design and manuscript preparation
• Presentation of Figure/ Table/ language style
• Ethics in publication
• A guide to how research writing is searched, accessed, retrieved, and read online
• A guide to using references

Examination

In order to meet the course requirements the student is expected to be present at all scheduled lectures, group discussions, and to actively participate in the group work for abstract writing and the subsequent general discussions. Students are expected to complete mandatory reading and writing assignments. Unauthorized absence from any of the scheduled events will lead to failure to pass the course.
