Learning outcomes

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to provide knowledge of how innovative processes can be used to solve need-based problems in interdisciplinary teams. Focus is on practical application of serious games – beyond pure entertainment - to promote changes in health care, learning and behaviour, for example through training, competition and education.

After completing the course the student should be able to:
• apply principles of an innovation process on identification, formulation and solving of problems
• develop effective and creative models of team work based on the understanding of how the ability to solve problems and achieve goals is affected by team composition and leadership
• value how serious games can be applied in innovative processes in the healthcare system, and in strengthening people's resilience to achieve and maintain health
• articulate how serious games can be used as novel pedagogic tools in learning

Contents

Content
In the perspective of current and future challenges for health and health care, this course will discuss innovative processes and novel health technologies to improve health care services and enhance self-management of health. The course will introduce methods and terminology of innovation and entrepreneurship and how innovative thinking can be applied to understand a problem, outline a goal and find a creative solution. The prerequisites (understanding group dynamics, leadership and decision making etc) to run projects and solve problems in multidisciplinary teams will be discussed and practiced in teams on need-based challenges provided by the health care sector. The course will integrate the basics of game design with the practical application of games and simulations as tools to address the assigned challenges. Game design will also be used as a pedagogic tool to enhance the four pillars of learning - critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Psychological knowledge about changes in behaviour and attitudes will also be discussed. At the end of the course the groups will present and defend their ideas and/or solutions to invited innovators, needs petitioners and clients.

Instructions

Instruction
